Winter Project Gallery

Blue Rock School’s winter remote period was filled with class check-ins, small group lessons in all subjects, individual meetings with teachers, and specials including Art, Music, Spanish, and Gym. This period allowed us to reunite with our classes following a hybrid fall, collaborate across grades, and welcome special guests. The quiet days brought opportunities to reflect and dream and we are sharing some of the art, poetry, and imaginary worlds that emerged from this time.

Fourth Grade created imaginary worlds which included physical and man-made features and a map key as a culmination of their study of geography.

Sixth grade wrote poems focusing on elements of nature, ranging from animals to weather and seasons to places. Each poem is a reality of wonder and the lives we live.

Third Grade explored shape poems this year, sometimes writing descriptions, writing from the subject's point of view, or simply highlighting important aspects of the shape with words.

All of our grades enjoyed their weekly art classes with Eileen, and on Friday afternoons children invited siblings, parents, and other relatives to Family Art. This was a wonderful opportunity to end the week with friends from across grades, including grandparents who joined us regularly from Ireland! Using easily accessible materials some of our winter remote projects included collage portraits, recycled sculpture, well-wishes figures, and pop-up valentines to share with local nursing homes.

Our Kindergarteners, whose work is play, spent special mornings alone on campus where they explored the elements, building friends and tunnels out of snow, lanterns of ice, and weaving on a loom strung between two tall trees. As the seasons changed they watched the campus wake up after a long winter sleep and discovered signs of fairies inhabiting their playground.
