BRS Clothing / Dress Code

At Blue Rock School, our focus is on fostering a positive learning environment for all our students. We are a diverse school in many ways and are mindful of this in outlining a dress code we feel is both body-positive, respectful and inclusive, as well as appropriate for a focus on learning. Our clothing requirements are in line with Blue Rock’s values of simplicity and nurturing a childhood that is full of outdoor engagement. We emphasize the practical need for weather appropriate gear, and through communication with parents and students, deemphasize consumer fads and trends which can cause undue social and financial pressure and burdens on students and families.

Throughout the school day, students engage in art classes, active outdoor activities, time in nature, garden work, physical activities such as yoga, gym, drama, and recess games. Clothes should be non-restrictive, allow for a range of motion and the possibility of getting somewhat dirty, while adhering to the policy below.

These lists are not meant to be exhaustive, but are intended to keep consistent community standards that promote safety and simplicity while allowing for individual expression. For specific events/performances and certain classes, students may be asked to modify their attire.
